The terms for using the Gaze Mac app, this website, and the tester program.
Effective date: 23 September 2026. These terms are governed by the law of Taiwan (Republic of China).
The terms
This site describes Gaze as free and open source. The license is named below.
- License
- The Gaze app is distributed under the license (MIT, copyright 2026 Owen Cope). The app bundles a Core ML build of InsightFace’s ArcFace model (converted by Sapphire), whose weights are for non-commercial use, and the third-party notices shipped with the app record what is settled about that model and what is not.
- No warranty
- Gaze is provided ‘as is’, without warranty of any kind, as the MIT License says. To the extent the law allows, Owen Cope is not liable for any loss from using Gaze, including a Mac unlocked by someone other than its owner.
- Convenience, not a security boundary
- Gaze is a convenience feature, not a replacement for your Mac's security. It uses the Mac's ordinary camera, not Face ID, and a photograph may fool it. Your password and Touch ID continue to work, and you remain responsible for your Mac's security, including keeping your password secret and your system up to date.
- Tester program
- Testers are named on a tester list by email address, and only those testers can see tester-only builds. Tester builds are for your own testing: please don't redistribute them or post them publicly. Feedback and screenshots in the Discord are welcome. Access ends when you are removed from the tester list, at your request or by an administrator.
- Apple
- Gaze is independently made and is not affiliated with Apple.
- Disputes
- These terms are governed by the laws of Taiwan (Republic of China). Disputes go to the Taiwan Taipei District Court as the court of first instance, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring a claim elsewhere. The liability terms are those under No warranty above.
